This site helps people start and find in-person Zcash meetups. Since Zcash is about privacy, we've tried to build the site the same way: collect as little as possible, keep it for as short a time as possible, and explain everything in plain words. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@example.org.

The short version#

  • No third-party trackers, no advertising and no analytics services.
  • You can browse everything without an account.
  • Organiser emails are private and never shown publicly.
  • Group locations are shown at approximate city level unless the organiser chooses to show a public venue.
  • We never store your IP address in raw form.
  • AI helper conversations are not stored unless you choose to share one.
  • You can delete your account and data yourself, for real, at any time.

Who we are#

The site is run by: [Seller/operator details to be confirmed]. That person or organisation is the data controller, meaning they decide how your data is used and are responsible for it.

This site is community-made. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Zcash Foundation or any Zcash company.

Browsing the site#

When you visit, we don't use tracking cookies, analytics tools, advertising pixels or social media widgets.

  • Fonts are served from our own server, so no font company sees your visit.
  • Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap. When a map loads, your browser asks their servers for map images, so they can see your IP address, as with any website you visit. We don't send them anything else.
  • Place searches go through our own server to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Nominatim sees our server, not you, so your searches are not linked to you.
  • "Near me" works entirely in your browser. Your location is used on your device to sort the list and is never sent to us or stored.
  • Progress and preferences, like your progress through the 7-step path or your theme choice, are saved in your own browser. If you're signed in, your progress is saved to your account.
  • Cookies: we use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, only if you sign in.

IP addresses#

We never store IP addresses in raw form. To limit spam and abuse, we turn your IP address into a scrambled code (a "hash") mixed with a secret value that changes every day. This lets us count requests for rate limiting without being able to tell who you are, and the codes can't be linked across days.

Counts, not people#

We count things like downloads, "was this helpful?" votes and AI helper usage as daily totals. These counts are not linked to you.

Organisers and group listings#

If you list a group, we keep:

  • Your email address, privately. We use it only to send you sign-in links, messages about your group (such as approval) and occasional "still meeting?" check-ins. It is never shown on the site or shared.
  • Your display name, which is public. A pseudonym is fine.
  • Your group's details, which are public: name, description, city, links where people can join, events and so on.

Location: by default your group's pin is placed near the centre of your city, with a small random shift, so it doesn't point to any real address. A venue's name and address are only shown if you choose to show them.

Images: uploaded images (such as cover photos and report photos) are re-encoded on our server, and hidden data such as camera details and GPS location (EXIF data) is removed.

Meetup reports contain numbers and short notes about the meetup only. We never collect attendee names, contact details or lists. Totals appear on our public impact page.

Directory data (group names, cities, links and events, but not images or organiser emails) is published as open data so other community projects can show meetups.

The AI helper#

When you ask the helper a question, your question and the conversation so far are sent to Anthropic, the company that makes the AI model, so it can generate an answer. We do not store your conversations. We only keep daily totals of how much the helper is used.

If you give feedback and choose to tick "share this conversation", we keep that one conversation to help improve the helper. Please don't type personal details into the helper, and never type a recovery phrase anywhere.

The starter pack shop#

If you order a starter pack, we keep:

  • your name and email address,
  • your shipping address,
  • your order details (what you ordered, the amount paid, payment method and status).

We share only what's needed with these services:

  • Stripe processes card payments. You enter card details on Stripe's page; we never see or store your card number.
  • CipherPay processes shielded ZEC payments. We share only your shipping address and the order total. Payments go directly to the seller's own wallet.
  • Print and delivery partners (for example Gelato) receive your name and shipping address so they can make and deliver your order.

Shipping addresses are deleted 180 days after delivery. We keep the rest of the order record (without the address) for as long as we need it for accounting and legal reasons.

If you join a waitlist, we keep your email address only to tell you when the thing you asked about is ready. You can ask to be removed at any time.

Donations#

Donations on the Donate page are sent straight from your wallet to a shielded Zcash address the project controls. This website never handles the payment and records nothing about it: no form, no account, no tracking. Because the payment is shielded, the project's wallet sees only the amount and any memo you choose to include, not who sent it. If you don't want to include a memo, delete it in your wallet before sending. To show the suggested amounts in dollars, our server looks up the ZEC exchange rate from public exchanges (Kraken, with Coinbase as a backup) every few minutes. Your browser never contacts them, and nothing about you is sent.

Emails#

We send emails through Resend, an email delivery service. They process your email address and the message content to deliver it. We only send emails you need, such as sign-in links, order updates and check-ins. No newsletters unless you ask for one.

Reporting a group#

If you use "report this group", we keep your report and a daily scrambled IP code (see above) to stop abuse of the form. You don't have to give your name.

Your choices and rights#

  • Delete your account: go to your dashboard and choose delete. This really deletes your account and personal data. If you're the only organiser of a group, hand it to a co-organiser first if you'd like it to stay listed; otherwise it is removed too.
  • See or correct your data: most of it is visible and editable in your dashboard. For anything else, email us.
  • Questions or complaints: email hello@example.org. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes#

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and note the change on this page.
